Redesign of Patch
We have begun the process of changing our department patch and how we will be identified going forward. We have done this for many reasons, including but not limited to: 1. Better recognition in the county and by our citizens. 2. With better recognition also comes better recruitment. 3. An enhanced professional look as we continue to grow as a full-time organization 4. With the growth of our organization, we no longer represent just the Caney Creek area, and this new patch will symbolize exactly that to the citizens we protect.
Oak leaves symbolize service. We see oak leaves on the brim of officers’ dress hats in the military and in some fire departments. In ancient Rome, Generals and Rulers would wear oak leaf crowns to symbolize service to the state. We have added it to our new patch to symbolize service to our community and the citizens we protect.
The patch color scheme and the Maltese Cross in the middle is derived from the old Houston Fire Department patch. This was selected by several of our members who have been here since the combination of Grangerland, Bennette and River Plantation. These members wanted to pay respect to Fire Chief Raymond Flannelly (Retired HFD), the reason behind this department’s success.
There are four stars on the new patch. One star each to represent and pay respect to the 4 main names that this department has been known as in the past. Grangerland, Bennette, River Plantation, and Caney Creek.
